Recharter Time
March units need to be turning in their recharters at the March Roundtable.
Unit commissioners will be ready to assist in this process.
Quality unit
If you have not already done so, please turn in your Centennial Quality
Commitment forms to your unit commissioner. If you need a form please contact
Bob Cochran or Jessi Burgess.
Scouting for
Food
The 2008 Scouting for Food Drive was a huge success. Thank you for
collecting food for the needy. Our district’s top 3 units collected the
following pounds of food: St. Gabriel Catholic 6,059 pounds, Myer’s Park
Presbyterian 4,430 pounds and South Mecklenburg Presbyterian 3,415 pounds.
Great job everyone! Our council donated the food collected to Loaves and Fishes
and they will be able to feed 108,721 meals from our Council Scouting For Food
Drive.
Camping and Outdoor Events
Apache District Spring Cuboree
Start making plans to attend the Spring Cuboree.
Date: April 18-20, 2008
Location: Camp Grimes
Cost: $10
Theme: Fun and Games
Play some games, go fishing, or just enjoy nature. Come and enjoy a spring
weekend at camp.
Apache Day Camp
The Apache Day Camp is being held this year the week of June 23 – 27 at Belk
Scout Camp. Lee Williams, Camp Director, would like to hear from you if you
would like to help volunteer. This year’s theme is “BCSA” - Belk Camp Space
Academy. Registration for Day Camp will only be at Roundtable on April 10th.
Cost is $90 per Cub Scout.
Environmental
Science Merit Badge
BSA Merit Badges are being offered at McDowell
Nature Preserve by a merit badge counselor for Env Science, Reptile and
Amphibian Study and Bird Study. Suzanne Belanger has currently put together the
Env Science merit badge for any scouts interested. There is a public program
being offered in April on the 2, 16, 23, and 30 from 4pm-6pm. The registration
fee is $10 a scout and it will include all materials needed. For scouts to
register for this program the simply need to call the 311 information hotline
and ask to register for the BSA Environmental Science Merit Badge at McDowell
Nature Center, barcode # 30418. For additional information please contact
Suzanne Belanger at McDowell Nature Center phone number 704-588-5224. This
program can also be offered to scout troops as a private program if they have at
least 5 scouts interested.
